On-Going Programs
Infant Car Seat Program
Over 400 infant car seats are provided annually to families whose babies were born at Thomas. We believe safety is very important for everyone, especially our new babies. The infant car seat program continues as one of the special projects funded by the generous donations from our community and from the Thomas Memorial Hospital Employee Club.
“GAP” Program
The “GAP” Program is vital to the complete recovery of elderly and indigent patients who are released from Thomas Memorial and Saint Francis Hospital. Patients have needs in order to continue their recuperation at home but cannot afford them. “GAP” funds provide for items such as medications, co-pays, scales for congestive heart patients, blood pressure cuffs, injections, bandages, walkers and nebulizers.
"GAP" Program for Working Families
The Rashid Family Endowment provides funding for health care needs of patients whose families are working but may not have health insurance or their insurance coverage carries high co-pays and deductibles they cannot afford. The earnings from this endowment paid for prescription medications and other medical needs required for patients to continue their recovery at home after being discharged from the hospital.
Baby Bed Project
The Foundation helps provide a safe and comfortable baby bed to indigent families whose baby is born at Thomas Memorial Hospital. The Segal & Davis Family Foundation has provided support for this project since 2003.
Santa’s Secret Elves Fund
The Employee Club continues to raise funds to support the Santa’s Secret Elves Program. The Santa’s Secret Elves Fund assists Thomas Memorial and Saint Francis employees in times of need. Contributions to this fund can be made through payroll deduction or a one-time gift.
Drive-Thru Flu Shot Program
The Foundation funds the purchase of 500 flu shots for the Annual Drive-Thru Flu Shot Program. Recipients of the program drove to the front of the hospital, roll down their car windows, roll up their sleeves and hospital health care workers administer the shots. The Foundation is proud to participate in an effort to protect our community from the potential risks of flu infection which can lead to even more serious complications. Thank you to the Barbara Vineyard Foundation for their donations to this program. A special thank you to Sarah McClanahan, RN/MSN, Infection Control Coordinator and Foundation Board Member for organizing the day and to all the hospital staff who volunteer to make a difference in our community.
Employee Educational Scholarships
The Foundation maintains its longtime commitment to helping hospital employees enhance their technical skills and education. We view these educational investments as "gifts that keep on giving," as the skills and talents they develop ultimately benefit the patients served by the hospital and the community as a whole.
Employee Children/Grandchildren Edcuational Scholarships
An Educational Scholarship Fund for Children/Grandchildren of Thomas Memorial Hospital Employees was established and funded by Thomas Hospital employees. Thomas Hospital employees whose children/grandchildren have taken classes in accredited programs offered by accredited colleges, universities and technical schools may apply for a one-time grant for up to $500 on reimbursement for tuition and/or books. The student must have achieved at least a "C" grade for each class or a 2.0 overall score for the semester to be eligible. Full-time employees that have worked for Thomas Memorial Hospital for three years are eligible to make application for scholarships for their children and/or grandchildren.
